My name is Kathryn Mulderink, and I am the Director of Religious Ed for our collaborative. Included below are the basic requirements and guidelines for our sacramental prep program, as well as information for adults who desire to receive their First Holy Communion. I look forward to meeting you and helping to prepare your student to receive the Blessed Sacrament!
When does prep begin for First Holy Communion?
Formal instruction begins at the start of their 1st grade year (Aug/Sep), and consists of two years of preparation. Students attend C.A.F.E. Sundays during the school year, in addition to a few other requirements. They receive their First Holy Communion in the spring of 2nd grade, as long as they have completed the two years of preparation. Baptism is required prior to receiving the sacrament.
How do I register my child?
Registration is required for their first year (when they are in 1st grade). Click the link to the document below, and fill the form out. Please send the form to Kathryn Mulderink at [email protected], or you may drop it off at the SMV Parish Office. If you have any questions you may contact Kathryn.
Please let contact Kathryn Mulderink at [email protected] to discuss your child's needs, and how to best prepare them. Most children will still complete two years of formation.
I am an adult but would like to receive Holy Communion, where do I begin?
If you are a baptized Catholic/Christian, or if you are interested in becoming Catholic but have not been baptized, you can attend our OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation) classes, which begin in the fall each year. Typically adults attend these classes during the school year, and enter the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil in the spring. Contact Kathryn Mulderink at [email protected] to register and discuss what the next step may be in your faith journey.
